Financial Assistance and Hope for Patients in Need
Supporting Cancer Patients Beyond Treatment
“You have cancer”
Three words that change your life forever. Very few people understand the challenges that a cancer diagnosis will have on their life. Navigating the healthcare system, emotional turmoil, and financial insecurity are just a few of the many concerns that affect your ability to heal.
The physicians of New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants, Ltd. (NMOHC) established the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation in 2002. They recognized that a cancer diagnosis affects many aspects of a patient’s life, not just their physical health. The Foundation aims to alleviate the financial burden of cancer treatment, ensuring that patients do not have to choose between paying for necessities like food and receiving vital medical care.
Even with healthcare coverage, a cancer diagnosis can create financial hardship for patients and their families. The costs of co-pays and deductibles add up quickly and can deplete a family’s savings, making it difficult to maintain employment and cover living expenses.
At NMOHC, financial counselors provide detailed insurance benefit reviews, calculate copays and out-of-pocket costs, and help patients find resources for prescriptions and other medical assistance. The New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation assists with any non-clinical needs of patients and families, while dedicated staff work to identify resources that address emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs.
The NMCCF is a registered 501 (c)(3) organization, in good standing, dedicated to helping patients in their battle with cancer. We provide financial assistance, education and help with any non-medical needs patients may have. The Foundation helps to reduce financial stress and improve the patient’s quality of life by providing support with daily living expenses such as housing, utilities, nutrition, and transportation.
The NMCCF provides a forum for discussing the latest research and therapeutics in early detection, diagnosis, and actionable treatment of cancer by hosting Continuing Medical Education events. These events aid in improving patient outcomes through professional education, which is crucial for early diagnosis and developing effective treatment plans.
There are many ways you can get involved and make a difference to someone battling cancer! Please contact the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation office at (505) 857-8460.
