Am I eligible for financial support from the NMCC Foundation?
To qualify for direct financial support, you must meet specific criteria, including receiving care at the New Mexico Cancer Center and experiencing financial hardship due to a life-impacting condition.
Do I need to be a patient at the New Mexico Cancer Center to apply?
Yes, financial support is only available to patients actively receiving care at the New Mexico Cancer Center or Health Specialists of New Mexico.
What conditions are considered life-impacting for eligibility?
Life-impacting conditions refer to serious medical diagnoses, such as cancer, that require regular medical intervention. Life-impacting illnesses have a significant impact on day-to-day living and your household finances.
What types of financial hardship are eligible for support?
Eligible financial hardships include difficulty paying for basic non-medical necessities, such as rent, mortgage, utilities, food, or transportation.
Does my financial hardship need to be directly related to my medical condition?
Yes, your financial challenges must be a result of your life-impacting condition to qualify for assistance.
What type of financial support can I request?
The NMCC Foundation considers requests for all non-medical related expenses. These expenses can be associated with housing, transportation (gas or ride support), nutrition/groceries, or utilities. The Foundation also provides support for auto repairs, approved home repairs, travel and lodging related expenses required for care, and even child care expenses.
Is medical treatment or medication covered by the Foundation?
No. The Foundation is restricted to support for non-medical expenses and does not cover medical bills or prescriptions.
Is there a limit to how much financial support I can receive?
The Foundation evaluates each case individually, and the level of support depends on your specific circumstances and needs.
How does the NMCC Foundation select which requests to approve?
The Foundation reviews all applications to ensure that they meet eligibility requirements and align with the mission to assist patients facing financial hardship.
Can I apply more than once for financial assistance?
Yes, but each application is reviewed independently, and repeat support is not guaranteed.
How long does it take to process an application for support?
The timeline for application review and approval varies, but the Foundation aims to assist as quickly as possible.
What documents do I need to submit with my application?
Applicants may be required to provide proof of financial hardship, medical condition, and expenses for which they are requesting support. Specific documentation will be determined during the application process.
Do I need to repay the financial assistance I receive?
No, the financial support provided by the NMCC Foundation is a grant, not a loan, and does not need to be repaid.
